CAPACITY BUILDING

Capacity building is a cross-cutting component of EquityCancer-LA. It comprises three areas:

1. Strengthening research capacities in all participating institutions through a series of activities to develop the necessary research skills and ensure a common understanding of the main research elements. These activities include specific training of researchers and collaboration and exchange between participating teams, with a particular emphasis on improving capacities in operational research and translating results into policy and practice.

2. Capacity building of health professionals as a key element of the intervention. It will involve: a) specific training in knowledge and skills in early diagnosis of the most frequent cancers, according to identified needs; and b) on-the-job training and close monitoring by the local steering committee during the implementation of the intervention. As a result, health workers are expected to be more motivated to stay in their jobs, while improving their performance and training.

3. Specific training to the local steering committee, consisting of the main key actors (policy makers, managers, health professionals and users) of each intervention network, to enhance active participation in the research process and to ensure the sustainability of the intervention after the end of the project. Ongoing training will be carried out by the researchers and will include the analytical framework of the project, the relevance of early cancer diagnosis, the results of the baseline study and the interventions to be implemented.
