Meeting of User Associations within the framework of the EquityCancer-LA Colombia project

On 28 August 2025, the Meeting of User Associations was held at the headquarters of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Universidad del Rosario, within the framework of the EquityCancer-LA Project, which addressed the importance of navigability strategies for patients with suspected or diagnosed cancer in the Colombian health system. The meeting was attended by 51 representatives of hospital user associations from fourteen municipalities in the Department of Cundinamarca, including the Samaritana University Hospital, the Zipaquirá Regional Hospital, the Zipaquirá Functional Unit, the San Vicente de Paul Hospital in Nemocón, the ESE San Antonio Hospital in Sesquilé, the ESE Hospital Pedro Leon Alvarez de la Mesa, the ESE Hospital San Rafael de Fusagasugá, the Hospital Profesor Jorge Cavalier de Cajicá, the Hospital Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Tabio, the Hospital Maria Auxiliadora de Mosquera, San Rafael Hospital in Facatativá, Mario Gaitán Yanguas Hospital in Soacha, National Cancer Institute, Asousuarios Clínica Chía, San Ignacio Hospital, Gachancipá Health Centre, representatives of User Associations of the EPS Famisanar, Salud Total and Nueva EPS, Fundación Puente de Amor, Ellen Riegner Foundation, Policy and Health Advisory Councils of the municipality of Tabio, Health Observers of the Municipality of Zipaquirá, Tabio Social Integration Secretariat, Zipaquirá Health Secretariat, Tabio Municipal Council, officials from the User Service Offices of the Intervention Network Hospitals, as well as users diagnosed with cancer and caregivers.

The meeting sought to generate dialogue, share experiences, and develop proposals to improve information, guidance, and support for users with suspected/diagnosed cancer and their families. At the meeting, the qualitative results of the EquityCancer-LA project's baseline study related to access to health services during the cancer diagnosis process were shared, the scope of the Navigation Roadmap was presented, and the navigation strategy adopted by the National Cancer Institute was shared as examples of good practices in the area.
