Researchers from the Sant Joan de Déu Foundation participated in the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Spanish Epidemiology Society (SEE) and the 20th Congress of the Portuguese Epidemiology Association (APE), which took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from 2 to 5 September, with an oral presentation on patient trajectories and the duration of their diagnostic process within the public health services of Chile, Colombia and Ecuador.
Under the slogan Ethics, lifestyle habits and action in public health, the SEE/APE congress was attended by more than 800 participants, including public health experts, academics and policy makers, who reflected on inequalities in health, nursing, public health and the health of the planet, cancer in young people and obesity.
The EquityCancer-LA project participated with an oral presentation entitled Cancer Trajectories and Diagnostic Delays in Health Services in Chile, Colombia and Ecuador, presented by Ignacio Aznar-Lou, a researcher at the Sant Joan de Déu Foundation, which analysed the type of trajectory of patients and the duration of their diagnostic process within the public health services of Chile, Colombia and Ecuador. The results show diverse and fragmented trajectories and very significant diagnostic delays in all three contexts, especially in Colombia. They point to the existence of barriers to access that require intervention for improvement. The presentation was signed by Ingrid Vargas and María Luisa Vázquez from the CSC, Pamela Eguiguren from the University of Chile, Amparo Mogollón from the Universidad del Rosario in Colombia, Ana Lucia Torres and Andrés Peralta from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, Josep Maria Borràs from the Institut Oncològic de Catalunya, Maria Rubio and Ignacio Aznar from the Fundació Sant Joan de Déu, Signe Smith from the University of Copenhagen, and Julian Perelman from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
