From 1 to 5 December 2025, the 5th Meeting of Principal Investigators of the EquityCancer-LA project, ‘Improving equity in access to early cancer diagnosis in different health systems in Latin America’ (EquityCancer-LA), co-organised by the CSC Research Service and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Universidad del Rosario. The workshop brought together researchers from Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Denmark, Portugal and Spain, along with representatives from the Local Steering Committees of Latin American countries and the International Scientific Committee.
The aim of the meeting was to share the progress made on the project, discuss the preliminary results of the intervention evaluation and plan the next stages of work. During the sessions, the preliminary results in each country of the evaluation of the implementation process of the interventions, the factors that influenced them and their impact on access to cancer diagnosis were analysed, as well as other unforeseen results that will contribute to sustainability and application in other contexts. The costs associated with the interventions were also analysed. The results of the quantitative evaluation, based on surveys of participating doctors and patients and focused on analysing the effectiveness of the interventions, are still in the data collection phase and are very preliminary, but they suggest improvements in access to cancer diagnosis, albeit with differences depending on the context.
On Thursday, 4 December, the international seminar ‘Improving access to cancer diagnosis in health service networks through participatory interventions in Colombia, Chile and Ecuador’ was held. This seminar, which was open to the public, brought together more than 200 healthcare professionals, health service network managers, decision-makers, user representatives, academics, and researchers, who were able to learn first-hand about the experiences of each country and the progress made to date.
