VI PI Meeting and Final Seminars of the EquityCancer-LA Project in Quito (Ecuador)

The Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE) will host the VI Principal Investigators (PI) Meeting and the final seminars of the EquityCancer-LA project, which will take place from 27 September to 2 October 2026 in Quito, Ecuador. The event is organised in collaboration with the Consorci de Salut i Social de Catalunya and will bring together researchers from participating teams in Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Europe, as well as representatives of oncology networks, healthcare professionals, managers and other key stakeholders involved in the project.

Throughout the week, participants will review the main achievements of EquityCancer-LA during its final stage, including the evaluation of the effectiveness of the interventions implemented in the three countries, the results of surveys conducted among healthcare professionals and patients, and progress on national and international scientific publications. Discussions will also focus on the preparation of the project's final reports, the completion of outstanding deliverables, and the future of the international research network established through EquityCancer-LA.

A key component of the programme will be a series of public seminars open to the university community, healthcare professionals, managers, policymakers and the general public. The first seminar, to be held on 28 September, will be dedicated to the presentation of undergraduate and postgraduate theses developed within the framework of the project. In addition, the final regional seminar, scheduled for 30 September, will provide an opportunity to share the main findings on access to cancer diagnosis in Ecuador, Colombia and Chile, as well as the interventions developed to improve early diagnosis, their sustainability and their potential for replication in other contexts. Finally, a meeting bringing together professionals, oncology networks, national committees and other stakeholders will take place on 1 October to exchange experiences and reflect on the continuity of the strategies implemented.

These final workshops and seminars constitute a milestone for EquityCancer-LA, marking the culmination of six years of collaborative work aimed at reducing inequalities in access to early cancer diagnosis in Latin America. The event will help consolidate lessons learned, strengthen institutional partnerships, and lay the foundations for future initiatives in global health research and innovation.
