On Wednesday, 30 September, the EquityCancer-LA Regional Final Seminar will take place in Ecuador, bringing together health managers, healthcare professionals, patients and users, decision-makers, members of the oncology network, and representatives of Ecuador’s Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), among other stakeholders.
The seminar is co-organised by the Health Policy Studies and Foresight Service (SEPPS) of the Consortium of Health and Social Care of Catalonia (CSC) and the Institute of Public Health of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE). It will be held at the PUCE Faculty of Education Auditorium in Quito. The event will take place in a hybrid format, with the option to follow the seminar online via YouTube.
The seminar will provide an opportunity to share the main results and lessons learned from EquityCancer-LA, with a particular focus on the interventions developed to improve access to early cancer diagnosis in Ecuador, Colombia and Chile.
The first panel, “Access to cancer diagnosis and interventions to address it in Ecuador, Colombia and Chile”, will present the findings of the initial analysis of diagnostic delays, the factors influencing them, and the costs associated with the diagnosis of the most common cancers. It will also showcase the interventions developed through a participatory approach in the three countries, including professional training, fast-track referral pathways and improved patient navigation.
The second panel, “Results of the evaluation of the interventions: contributions to improving early diagnosis, sustainability and replicability”, will examine changes in knowledge, coordination across levels of care and access to diagnosis, as well as the conditions required to sustain the interventions over time.
The seminar will also provide opportunities for discussion with participants, creating a space to reflect collectively on the main lessons learned and the potential for transferring and replicating the interventions in other contexts.
The seminar is open to all professionals and stakeholders interested in improving access to cancer diagnosis.
